Herbal Services
Herbalism is a passion I discovered while attending The Midwives College of Utah. After taking an intensive herbology class in my winter term of school, I learned about different herbs and the helpful properties they provide in the context of pregnancy , birth, and postpartum. I discovered quickly that not only did I latch onto and retain the information from this intensive class, but formulating tinctures, making salves, and creating tea blends came to me easily. I am excited to continue my study of herbalism this winter with advanced herbology courses at my school and even more excited to bring this knowledge and expertise into my work as a student midwife and birth doula.
How I utilize herbs for pregnancy and birth
I have always been drawn to alternative treatments and medicines but, I always avoided herbal treatments because I felt so overwhelmed by the information available. The scope of herbal practices is so vast, that it feels easy to get lost in the overwhelming research. I was lucky enough to take a class that spent just as much time helping me find accurate sources to learn how to work and dose with herbs as it taught me which herbs are safe in pregnancy and postpartum and which herb should be limited or avoided completely.
As a birth worker, I travel with tinctures and salves to help ease common symptoms of birth and pregnancy. I carry tinctures to ease nausea and vomiting, tinctures to help ground and energize both myself and my clients, and tinctures to help aid the twists and turns of labor through mental, emotional and physical support. I love herbs and believe in their properties and vast abilities and I also honor and respect every client’s comfort level when adding herbs into the mix. If this isn’t something you are interested in, that is no problem for me. My top priority is your comfort and with or without herbs I can assist in making you more comfortable in your birthing experience.
Did you know I offer Moxibustion to help turn sassy little Breech babies?
1 Hour Moxibustion session
$150
What is Moxibustion and what is included in the 1-hour session?
Moxibustion is an Eastern medicine practice where an herbal stick containing mugwort is lit and applied to an external acupuncture point located on the toes. For 40 minutes the smoke is waved over the pressure points on both your left and right foot. The heating up of this point with the smoke, combined with the herbal properties of mugwort, stimulates a loosening in the pelvic floor allowing more room and loosening for the baby to turn where they need to go! Mugwort also increases baby’s activity in utero and gives them the wiggles to motivate their little spin move. Moxibustion is most effective when practiced in weeks 33-36 of pregnancy. While this may sound a little ‘woo-woo’, there is evidence-based research that supports the efficacy of moxibustion for turning breech babies. You can read more about the efficacy of moxibustion HERE
With this service, I educate clients about the process of moxibustion and teach them how to perform moxibustion on their own after my initial application. I also provide clients with all the supplies needed to continue the moxibustion for the next 7-10 days! With this service, you also have access to the exercises and positioning techniques I will assist you with to make sure we are utilizing both herbal remedies and my knowledge of optimal fetal positioning exercises to increase the chances of getting your breech baby to turn successfully. This service usually takes about an hour and can be done in the comfort of your home! Sign up on the form below and I will reach out shortly to schedule a day and time that works well for you!
